Why JBA Institute?

Our clinicians work together as a team to develop and implement an individualized plan of care tailored specifically to the needs of your child. Parent education is a key component of our services. Parents have opportunities to engage in training and learn how to implement intervention techniques and apply key learnings from their child’s behavior plan at home and in the community.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects the normal functioning of the brain. The primary characteristics include challenges with communication skills, social interactions, and restricted or repetitive interests. With the disorder affecting skill acquisition in such critical areas of functioning, it is important that an intervention for ASD entails comprehensive teaching and thorough analysis from a high-quality provider to allow for maximum progress.

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the most well-documented, evidence-based intervention for the treatment of ASD. This treatment approach incorporates careful assessment and analysis of skill deficits and behavioral excesses to develop an individualized treatment plan for each client. Additionally, through direct observation and data collection, client progress is closely monitored to ensure that the greatest skill development can occur as quickly as possible. Over 50 years of research, published in a multitude of peer-reviewed journals, has repeatedly shown the effectiveness of this treatment approach.

You have a very important role in your child’s learning process, which starts with the assessment and lasts through the full course of treatment. This includes providing information about your child, approving goals and objectives, and working with the programs and behavior plans that the program supervisor will develop. The program supervisor will determine the frequency, duration, and location of the services based on your child’s assessment, their availability and staff availability. We will also want you to participate in regular family training sessions and team meetings to ensure consistency.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict how quickly enrollment can occur. We work hard to enroll interested families as soon as possible; however, many factors contribute to how long that takes. These factors include location, needs of the family, availability of staff, etc. Once a team is available and enrollment begins, the initial assessment can be authorized through insurance within 1-2 weeks and intervention services can begin once the assessment is complete.

Clinic-based ABA therapy is delivered in a structured, distraction-reduced setting that is intentionally designed to promote learning and skill acquisition. Clinics provide access to specialized therapy tools, designated learning spaces, and peer interaction opportunities that may not be available in a home environment. This setting is especially effective for developing social interaction skills, participating in group-based activities, building school readiness, and engaging in structured instructional programs.

Clinic-based ABA therapy creates regular opportunities for children to interact with peers, which plays a key role in developing social communication and cooperation skills. Under the supervision of trained professionals, children practice sharing, turn-taking, following group expectations, and interacting appropriately with others. These types of peer-based learning experiences are often difficult to replicate at home and are essential for successful participation in school and community settings.

Home-based ABA therapy takes place in the child’s everyday living environment, where routines, habits, and behaviors naturally occur. Working within the home allows therapists to focus on real-world skills such as communication, daily living tasks, transitions, and behavior support as they happen in context. This approach also encourages active participation from parents and caregivers during sessions, which helps reinforce consistency, promotes skill generalization, and supports the use of learned behaviors throughout daily family life.

Selecting the most appropriate therapy environment begins with a thorough evaluation completed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. This assessment considers your child’s individual learning preferences, behavioral challenges, family priorities, and current level of independence. While some children thrive in a single setting, others benefit from a combination of home- and clinic-based services. Our team works closely with families to determine the most effective and personalized therapy plan for each child.
